đź‘‹ Hello everyone!
As we approach the launch of the first stage of the “new Watchit,” we’d love to give you a bit of context about where we’ve come from and where we’re going. After five years of hard work and constant evolution, we’re closer than ever to realizing a platform that will be a game-changer for creators and their fans.
Let us share a bit of our story.
From the beginning, our vision has been simple yet powerful: to create a space where creators can share their content freely with fans and followers, without intermediaries limiting their reach or income. It all started with an application for decentralized movie streaming. Yes, you could upload and share your films without needing costly servers. While this was fantastic for many, we knew we needed a sustainable economic model for long-term success. If you’d like to learn more about our early steps, check out this article: Watchit: The Decentralized Video Platform.
Today, we’re proud to say that we’ve made great strides without compromising our original vision of a free, censorship-resistant, decentralized space that benefits creators and fans alike. In a world dominated by major distributors controlled by a select few (yes, the infamous "hamster wheel"), we’re committed to offering a fair and accessible alternative for everyone. You can read more about our mission here.
We’ve integrated a sustainable economic model (see our flow here) and greatly enhanced the user experience. Thanks to tools like Lens, you can now interact directly with your favorite creators—comment, like, report content, and more—all in a decentralized environment. Additionally, with our powerful protocol (Synapse), creators can monetize their content openly and flexibly, leveraging a distributor marketplace to ensure secure delivery without costly infrastructures. Everything operates under their own terms and conditions. Discover more about Synapse here and here.
We’re also considering the boom in artificial intelligence for content creation. Many creators are doing incredible things with videos, images, music, and more. Projects like Story aim to make intellectual property trackable and monetizable, providing liquidity for these assets. We believe AI’s impact is imminent, and it’s essential to offer tools that help creators monetize their work in a market demanding quality content.
The launch of Watchit will be gradual since we operate on Synapse, an extensive project that requires synchronizing both roadmaps. New Watchit features will roll out alongside protocol updates.
Stage One:
In this initial phase, we will launch an MVP on testnet. This will include social features enabled by Lens integration, allowing you to comment, like, report content, and subscribe to your favorite creators’ content at a rate they set. We will also offer content provided by enthusiastic creators—artistic shorts, films, public domain material, personal collections, educational content, and more. Additionally, you’ll have access to search, exploration, user account management, content profiles, and each creator’s social profile. Access to platform benefits will be facilitated through the MMC token.
Stage Two:
We will focus on tools for creators. They will be able to upload content in various formats, extract metadata, classify, generate captions, and assign categories—all powered by AI. Security checks and alerts will also be implemented to ensure content integrity. Creators can also define monetization strategies: subscriptions, time-limited access, permanent access, and more.
Stage Three:
We will consolidate the MMC economy, introducing incentives for fans, creators, and distributors based on their contributions to the network. We will initiate governance platform implementation, vesting schedules, staking, audit and compliance, preparing for the private sale of the MMC token.
Stage Four:
The governance platform will be fully operational. The community will be able to participate in content curation and distributor selection via referendums. Key decisions on token burn rate, reward percentages, and distributor fees, etc. Creators will be able to choose their distribution partners, and distributors will establish themselves as active members of the network. The community will be able to stake tokens, vote on proposals, receive rewards, and consume content.
The future includes integrations with other protocols to enhance interoperability and security, such as LayerZero and LIT. We will also develop analytics and monitoring tools for creators and distributors and foster the development of open-source tools, always exploring new opportunities.
We are in the process of raising funds for stages two and beyond. We have a rewards plan for early creators willing to upload content in the beta. All MMC tokens earned on testnet will be migrated to mainnet. We’d love to receive your feedback and comments. Together, we can build a platform that benefits everyone!
